Rahul writes to PM on poor condition of Darbhanga Ambedkar hostel
Patna: Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday about the poor condition of Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga where he visited on May 15. He said 6-7 students were forced to live in a single room without proper toilet, drinking water and other basic facilities.
The Congress MP had defied the Darbhanga administration order not to visit Ambedkar hostel and, instead, hold his meeting at Town Hall. However, Rahul marched on foot through the side lanes and addressed the students at Ambedkar hostel. An FIR was also lodged against him for defying the orders.
Rahul, while citing the example of Bihar, shared his letter to the PM on X on Wednesday. A part of it reads: "I request you to resolve two critical issues which hinder education opportunities for the 90% of students who are from marginalized communities. Firstly, the conditions in residential hostels for students from Dalit, ST, EBC, OBC and minority communities are deplorable. Secondly, post-matric scholarships for students from marginalised communities are plagued by delays and failures."
Rahul has mentioned his recent visit to Darbhanga and cited the example of Ambedkar hostel there. "Six-seven students are kept crammed in a room there. The hostel has serious conditions like dirty toilets, unsafe drinking water, food disorder, and lack of educational resources. Students coming from marginalized communities are not getting scholarships on time after matriculation," he wrote.
Citing the example of Bihar, Rahul claimed that the scholarship portal remained stalled for three years. "No student received a scholarship in 2021-22," he claimed.
The Rae Bareli MP has requested the PM to resolve these issues. "India's future will be bright only when the youth of disadvantaged communities can get equality in education and opportunities. I am confident that you will take these issues seriously. I look forward to your positive response," he summed up.
