PMC launches drive to remove illegal hoardings
Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a drive to remove advertisements and hoardings across its jurisdiction as it prepares to implement new advertisement regulations. The action follows the expiry of existing contracts and seeks to plug revenue leakages identified in previous licensing cycles. By clearing existing structures, the civic body aims to introduce a standardised framework for future displays that will enhance financial returns as well as improve urban aesthetics.
The special drive is being carried out in all six municipal zones using scientific survey methods to identify and dismantle unipoles and banners installed without authorisation. Enforcement teams are targeting illegal installations in public spaces, on electric poles, on govt premises, and on the roofs or walls of private buildings.
According to an official press release issued by PMC on Sunday, the corporation has so far removed 196 hoardings and served 253 notices. Zone-wise figures show that New Capital Circle recorded 50 removals and 49 notices, Pataliputra 53 removals and 16 notices, Kankarbagh 17 removals and 89 notices, Azimabad 35 removals and 33 notices, Patna City 15 removals and 45 notices, and Bankipur 26 removals and 21 notices.
PMC commissioner Yashpal Meena has directed officials to conduct the enforcement drive during both day and night hours in congested areas to minimise traffic disruption. “Disregard for rules will not be accepted under any circumstances,” Meena said. He asked officials to ensure strict action without yielding to external pressure so as to prevent activities that damage the city’s image.
Simultaneously, the corporation has initiated steps to recover Rs 107 crore in outstanding arrears from 54 advertising agencies. Notices have been issued directing them to clear their dues immediately. The administration has warned that failure to comply will invite legal proceedings under the Public Demands Recovery Act and may lead to blacklisting of the institutions concerned.
