Ansari, who was the SHO of Kothi police station in Gaya district, was shot dead by criminals during his morning walk on Monday.

Qayamuddin's childhood friend Mohd Mubarak Ahmad recalled he often used to say Maoism was a curse for the society and it could be uprooted only by joint efforts of police and public. "We suspect a conspiracy behind the killing of Qayamuddin... and involvement of Maoists," Mubarak said.

Qayamuddin's wife Anjum Ara, a government school teacher, was inconsolable. "Humlogo ne keya bigada kisi ka? Allah itni badi saja mere jeevan mein kis baat ki?" she said while crying.

Qayamuddin is survived by, besides wife, three daughters and a son.

Qayamuddin's younger brother Nayeem Ansari was kidnapped during the panchayat election early this year, but was later released.
