Notorious criminals arrested by STF

PATNA: A Patna police team, comprising jawans of state’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested five notorious criminals after raiding a house in Budhanpur under the Barh police station on Friday morning. The arrested criminals are Mahesh Singh, Vishwanath Singh, Sohan Singh, Tarun Singh and Nityanand Singh.
"They are members of a gang of criminals lead by Sanjay Singh alias Mahatma.All were mentioned as absconders in the police register for more than a decade," Patna SP (R) G P Sinha said
It was the same gang which executed the Machchuara massacre in 1999. "Rohan and Tarun belong to Chandi in Nalanda district while the name of Mahesh Singh figured in at least 15 cases of murder, dacoity and kidnapping lodged with the different police stations of Patna, Nawada and Nalanda districts," Sinha said before rushing to Barh to interrogate the arrested criminals, adding they also functioned as contract killers.
Meanwhile, police sources said it was the same gang which kidnapped Tirath Gupta of Madhya Pradesh in the past. "The gang has its links with other states also. We hope to get major information about different kidnapping cases during the interrogation of the arrested criminals,"said a senior police officer. Police have recovered 30.6 bore semi-automatic regular rifle, one .315 bore rifle and 60 live cartridges from the arrested criminals.
