Nitish transfers over Rs113cr to farmers for crop damage

Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday transferred more than Rs 113 crore through direct benefit transfer (DBT) to over two lakh affected farmers for crop damage caused by floods due to excessive rainfall and the Motha cyclone last year. The amount was transferred under the Agriculture Input Subsidy Scheme.

During the programme held at the ‘Sankalp’ Hall at 1, Anne Marg, the CM said farmers would be able to use the amount for upcoming crops. The subsidy was provided to all flood-affected farmers under the Agriculture Input Subsidy Scheme.


He said the state govt was committed to extending assistance to all flood-affected farmers. “We are continuously working for the progress of farmers. We believe that flood victims have the first right to the state treasury,” he said.

“In 2025, heavy rainfall-induced floods and the Motha cyclone caused crop damage in 13 districts of the state – Begusarai, Bhojpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, Kaimur, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi and Supaul. Farmers from 53 blocks and 493 panchayats of these districts were affected. For this, crop damage compensation subsidy is being given to affected farmers under the Agriculture Input Subsidy Scheme. The agriculture department received online applications from farmers of all affected districts, and verification was done by the districts. Today, Rs 113 crore is being transferred directly to the bank accounts of 2.2 lakh farmers,” a communique issued by the chief minister’s office (CMO) said.

Earlier, the agriculture department’s principal secretary, Narmadeshwar Lal, welcomed the CM by presenting him with a green plant.

Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, agriculture minister Ramkripal Yadav, principal secretary to the CM Deepak Kumar, chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit, secretaries to the CM Anupam Kumar, Kumar Ravi and Chandrashekhar Singh, and director (agriculture) Saurabh Suman Yadav, along with other senior officials, were present.
