Neighbour held on charge of raping specially-abled minor girl in Bhagalpur

In Bhagalpur, a specially-abled minor girl was allegedly raped in her home. Following the FIR lodged by the girl's mother, Naugachia police formed an SIT and swiftly arrested the accused neighbour within five hours. The accused has confessed to the crime, and the girl has undergone a medical examination.

Bhagalpur: A special investigation team (SIT) of Naugachia police in Bhagalpur district arrested a man on Wednesday on the charge of raping a specially-abled minor girl on finding her alone in her house on Tuesday.The family, however, came to know about it on Wednesday when she narrated the ordeal to them, alleged her mother in an FIR registered at the local police station on the same day.Naugachia superintendent of police (SP) Prerna Kumar said that the SIT was formed and the accused neighbour was arrested within five hours of lodging the FIR under sections 65(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and 4/6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The girl’s medical examination has been conducted.

The accused has confessed to the crime, said the SP, adding that action has been taken under Section 183 of Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, that governs the recording of confessions.
