Bettiah: A dispute during a wedding procession in West Champaran district turned violent on Thursday night, leading to the arrest of 14 people, police said.
The incident occurred in Manjharia village under Purushottampur police station area when a baraat from Jaitapur village in East Champaran district was passing by a mosque around 9pm on April 16. An argument broke out between two groups over playing music during the procession, which quickly escalated into a physical clash.
Acting swiftly on information, local police and administrative officials reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Senior officials, including the district magistrate and superintendent of police, later visited the site to assess the situation.
Based on written complaints from both sides, two cases were registered at Purushottampur police station.
SP Shaurya Suman said, “The matter was taken seriously and immediate action was initiated. A total of 14 people from both sides have been arrested, and further investigation is underway. Police forces, along with a magistrate, have been deployed in the village to maintain law and order. The situation is under control.”
