Patna: The state govt has decided to complete the pending elections for the formation of empowered standing committees in municipal bodies across the state.
Urban development and housing minister Nitish Mishra on Tuesday said district magistrates-cum-district election officers (municipalities) had been directed to ensure the elections are conducted between May 26 and May 31.
The elections were originally scheduled between April 15 and April 25, but were later postponed due to unavoidable reasons. Municipal bodies where the election process had already been completed on April 15 were allowed to continue functioning with the elected committees.
Nitish said the govt had now decided to resume and complete the remaining election process in a time-bound manner.
He instructed officials to ensure that the elections are conducted in a fair, transparent and peaceful manner across all districts.
The minister expressed confidence that the formation of Empowered Standing Committees would help speed up development works in urban local bodies and improve urban governance in Bihar.
Officials said the committees play a key role in municipal administration and decision-making related to civic development projects and local governance.
