Buxar: Modernisation work at Dumraon railway station on Danapur-Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) section of East Central Railway has regained momentum after a brief pause during the monsoon. With weather conditions improving, construction activities have resumed in phases, and railway officials said the project is now progressing steadily towards completion.
The redevelopment is being undertaken under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at an estimated cost of Rs17.1 crore with the objective of transforming Dumraon into a modern, passenger friendly station. At present, reinforcement bars are being laid for the new ticket booking office, after which construction of the main station building will begin.
A senior official of the Danapur division said the new station building, spread over approximately 3,012 square metres, will be superior to the existing structure. “It will feature modern ticket counters, improved waiting areas, enhanced passenger amenities, and secure entry and exit gates,” the official said.
As part of the project, a large circulating area of about 19,214 square metres is being developed to streamline the movement of passengers and vehicles.
A six-metre-wide foot overbridge will connect the platforms, while new platform shelters are also being constructed. In addition, surfacing work for 500 metres of platforms has been planned.
Railway officials said nearly 50% of the work has been completed so far. “Despite delays due to rainfall and certain technical issues, we are confident of finishing the project before March 2026 while adhering to prescribed quality standards,” an official said.
The redevelopment also focuses on improving passenger comfort and aesthetics. Interior upgrade work will begin soon. The station will be repainted and aesthetically enhanced in phases. The station will feature shehnai music of Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan, who was born in Dumraon.
To enhance accessibility, two lifts are being provided for senior citizens, people with disabilities and women. A modern waiting hall of about 104 square metres, new toilets spread over 105 square metres and a second entrance of around 150 square metres are also part of the project. Officials said work on the circulating area and second entrance is progressing rapidly.
Passengers have welcomed the renewed pace of construction. Ravishankar Srivastava, a daily passenger, said the upgrades would be a major relief, especially for senior citizens. Another commuter, Anupama Bharati, said that well-maintained waiting halls and toilets would greatly improve comfort for women and families.
Dumraon station in the current financial year has recorded a revenue of Rs9.57 crore. Officials said this strong performance was a key factor behind its selection under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, reflecting the station’s growing importance as a passenger and business hub.
