PATNA: The Alamganj police chased away a rampaging mob that had blocked the road at Sandalpur following the murder of one Pappu Kumar (20) near Agamkuan railway crossing here on Friday afternoon.
Police sources said Pappu, owner of a shop dealing with fancy electric lights at Kumhrar, was murdered by a group of criminal as he stepped out of Shitala Maata Mandir at around 4.30 pm.

He had come with his family members to see a girl for his marriage. As soon as he came out of the temple, the armed criminals opened fire killing Pappu on the spot. The assailants then escaped from there.
Panic prevailed in the locality following the killing. The deceased's family members took the body to Sandalpur and tried to block the road there. They had heated argument with residents of Kumhrar, who were opposed to road blockade. A pitched battle was fought between them and both sides pelted each other with stones. However, local police soon reached the spot and chased away the mob.
OC of Alamganj police station K K Singh said that he had informed Government Rail Police, Patna City, as the incident had taken under its jurisdiction.
He said that the family members did not inform the police about the killing and took away the body with them. The body was later sent to NMCH for post-mortem examination, the OC added.
