Missing girl’s decomposed body found in Buxar village
Buxar: Police on Saturday recovered body of an 18-year-old girl stuffed inside a sack at Chunni Dera village under Chakki police station area in the district. The girl, identified as Sunita Kumari, had been missing since Feb 16, barely two months before her scheduled wedding.
Villagers informed the police after a foul smell was emanating from a sack behind a govt school in the village. Officials from Chakki police station, along with Dumraon SDPO Polsat Kumar and an FSL team, reached the spot. The body was sent to a govt hospital for the postmortem.
Buxar SP Shubham Arya said prima facie the body appeared to be around five days old. Sunita’s brother, Baljeet Yadav, said on Feb 16 evening, she was preparing food at home. After some time she went out to buy sugar, but she never returned.
The family searched for her for several days. When no trace was found, a verbal complaint was lodged at Chakki police station, a day before the body was recovered.
Her mother said the marriage had already been fixed. The ‘tilak’ ceremony was scheduled for April 4, and the wedding was planned for the next month. The family was busy with preparations. She said they did not have enmity with anyone.
Villagers claimed Sunita was allegedly in a relationship with a youth from the same village and that her family was unhappy about it. Some locals suspect the possibility of an honour killing, though police have not confirmed this angle.
Sunita’s father, Baleshwar Yadav, who runs a dairy business in Asansol, West Bengal, had returned to work about 15 days ago and was informed about the incident over the phone.
The SDPO said an investigation is underway on multiple angles. Family members are being questioned, and the girl’s room is being examined. Police said the exact cause of death will be known only after the autopsy report comes.
