Man’s death takes turn as wife alleges murder over land dispute in Patna
Patna: The death of a man whose body was found near a drain close to Urja Stadium in Shastri Nagar police station area on April 15 took a new turn on Friday after his wife alleged that he was murdered by his in-laws over a property dispute.
Police, however, said no concrete evidence of murder has been found so far.
The deceased was identified as Rajesh Rai (35), a resident of Digha Kurji Balupar locality. His wife, Anita Kumari, lodged a complaint at Shastri Nagar police station, alleging that her husband was killed as part of a conspiracy.
She named her father-in-law, Suresh Gope, and brother-in-law along with his family members, claiming that Rajesh was called to Shastri Nagar over a land dispute, killed and his body dumped near the drain.
Anita said there had been a dispute over land around 10 days ago and alleged that the accused were pressuring Rajesh to transfer his share of property to them. She further claimed that her father-in-law and brother-in-law have criminal antecedents, with multiple cases registered against them.
Sachivalay SDPO-2 Saket Kumar said, “Investigation is underway based on the family’s complaint. Police who reached the spot after receiving information were told by eyewitnesses that the man arrived there on an e-rickshaw, collapsed near the drain and did not get up.”
During the investigation, police also found that Rajesh was addicted to intoxicants, and his friends are being questioned. “So far, no evidence of murder has been found,” the SDPO said.
