Man detained in Gujarat for threatening CM over phone
Sanand/Patna: A 32-year-old man was detained from Ahmedabad in Gujarat on Friday for allegedly issuing death threats to the CM, Samrat Chaudhary, over a phone call to his residence in Munger district.
The action was taken based on a viral audio clip that came into the notice of Munger police on April 15. An FIR was registered immediately at Sangrampur police station of Munger in this regard.
Both Bihar and Gujarat police jointly tracked the accused’s mobile location and nabbed Shekhar Yadav from Sanand in Ahmedabad.
The accused, a Banka native, claimed that he issued the death threat in anger because no action was taken on his assault case in Bihar, SP (Ahmedabad rural) Om Prakash Jat said.
“He confessed to the crime during interrogation. Further investigation, including the motive behind issuing threats, will be carried out by the Bihar police,” Jat said.
Shekhar is a resident of Khalaud village under Belhar police station area of Banka district. He is the son of Krishna Yadav and was working as a truck driver in Ahmedabad. Police investigation has revealed that he was living away from his family for over one year.
Gujarat Police arrested him and handed him over to their Bihar counterpart. He is being brought to Bihar on transit remand for questioning. Shekhar called at the CM’s house from his mobile phone.
Munger SP Syed Imran Masood said, “Sangrampur police station received an audio clip on April 15 in which a man used objectionable language and threatened the CM. The same person also called the CM’s house from his mobile and issued a death threat. A case was registered immediately and the probe began.”
Yadav was talking to another person over a phone call, during which he allegedly used objectionable language against the CM and revealed that he had also issued a death threat. The third person, to whom Yadav was talking over the phone, recorded the conversation and circulated it on social media.
“During interrogation, Shekhar stated that he received a call from an unknown number, during which he got into an argument with another person. In the heat of the moment, he used objectionable and threatening language. He is married and has three children. Yadav’s wife and children are living in the village with his elderly parents. His wife has been sick and bedridden for the last one year. The accused has not met his family members for over a year,” Masood said.
Police said, prima facie, the incident appears to have occurred in a fit of rage rather than being part of any pre-planned conspiracy. The accused is not associated with any political party or any suspicious organisation.
The SP added, “Yadav also does not have any such criminal history, but a case of assault against him was registered at Belhar police station about a year back. He claimed to have used objectionable language and issued the threats due to injustice in that assault case.”
