Man beaten to death over sand mining dispute in Begusarai
Begusarai: A 35-year-old man was allegedly thrashed to death by criminals associated with sand mining in Mohanpur village under Begusarai mufassil police station area of Begusarai district on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Mohd Wakil alias Makhiya.Wakil was the brother-in-law (wife’s brother) of Mohd Jahangir, who is posted as the local chowkidar in neighbouring Killi village. Jahangir alleged that local musclemen engaged in illegal sand mining as well as liquor smuggling and other criminal activities thrashed Wakil brutally on Tuesday, leading to his death.“Wakil was on way to a small shop in Mohanpur village when the miscreants pulled him inside a vehicle. They later shot him in his legs and then beat him mercilessly leading to his death. They suspected Wakil used to work as an informer for him to convey message to police about their illegal activities. The criminals had even threatened Wakil to eliminate him a few weeks ago when I along with him had gone to Mohanpur village to settle a dispute linked with these illegal activities,” a family member of the victim said.Manish, SP of Begusarai, said the incident was a fallout of a dispute between two groups. “Police are investigating the case and those guilty for violence will be arrested,” he said.
