Assault on Mahadalit woman in Patna: Main accused arrested
PATNA: The main accused in the Khusrupur case was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly thrashing a Mahadalit woman, parading naked and urinating on her mouth at Mosimpur village under Kusrupur police station area in Patna district on Saturday. The incident took place after the victim failed to pay an additional interest on a loan amount of Rs1500 which she claimed had already been paid off.
A State Women Commission (SWC) team met the victim at Khusrupur and assured her justice.
Rural SP Syed Imran Masood said the accused, Pramod Singh of the same village, was arrested from Fatuha by the special investigation team led by Fatuha SDPO. "His son Anshu Kumar and four other accused are still absconding. The incident of urination has not been confirmed in the investigation. The police are conducting raids to nab the other accused," he said.
SWC chairman Ashwamedh Devi said the statements of the victim were registered and would be taken in cognizance. Further talks will be initiated with the Patna SSP. The team has seen her injuries. She has not changed her statements during the entire process. From the beginning she has maintained that she has been brutalized.
The commission will investigate the matter impartially and will make sure for harshest punishment to the accused. The commission will pressurize the administration and police for speedy investigations, she added. The victim was badly beaten with sticks and allegedly paraded naked, as per the statement of Ashok Das, the brother of her husband.
He alleged that Anshu had urinated on her mouth. The family members wrapped her in clothes when she was running back home naked. The victim's two sons and two daughters are staying with relatives.
