Buxar: The excise department on Tuesday seized 203 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), valued at over Rs21 lakh, from a truck at the Veer Kunwar Singh excise checkpost. The liquor was being smuggled to Bihar.Acting on a tip-off about a large consignment of liquor entering Bihar from Uttar Pradesh, excise officials intensified vehicle checks at the checkpost. During the drive, a suspicious truck was stopped and searched. At first glance, the truck appeared to be carrying only bundles of jute sacks. However, a detailed inspection revealed 203 cartons of foreign liquor hidden inside the load.The truck was seized and the liquor consignment confiscated. Excise superintendent of Buxar Ashraf Jamal said the truck driver and co-driver were arrested. The accused were identified as Rahul Singh, a resident of Giloh village in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, and Krishna Yadav, a resident of Bahoda Kala in Haryana.During preliminary interrogation, the duo admitted that they were transporting the liquor from Haryana to Bihar. The consignment was reportedly destined for Patna, where local smugglers were expected to guide them further. The department has seized the truck, liquor and related documents.An FIR has been lodged under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, and further investigation is underway.
