received a rousing farewell in police presence while being taken back to Beur jail from AIIMS-Patna after his treatment on Friday. A video of his supporters garlanding their godfather went viral on Saturday, leaving the police red-faced. Bindu’s supporters, mostly youths, could be heard terming him even ‘Bihar Kesari’.
Prison sources said Bindu is lodged in Beur jail in several cases of serious nature. “Looking at his criminal background, he has been kept in a ward where only one criminal is accommodated. He is suffering from
prostate cancer
and frequently requires to visit hospital for chemotherapy,” a senior prison officer said, preferring anonymity.
When asked if he had come to know about the viral video, the officer confirmed the incident but said taking him to hospital and bringing him back to jail is district police’s
responsibility
.
“Prison’s department responsibility ends at jail gate. A prisoner’s security at hospital during treatment is also the responsibility of district police concerned,” he said.

Upendra Kumar Sharma
told TOI over phone that such activities are not allowed as the prisoner was in judicial custody. “I will, however, look into the matter,” he said.
