India can help ease West Asia tensions: Iran representative
Patna: Representative of Iran’s supreme leader in India, Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, on Sunday said in Patna that all countries, including India, could contribute positively to ending the West Asia conflict. He said India is well placed to do so because it maintains relations with multiple sides in the region and has credibility as a country that often supports dialogue, sovereignty and the peaceful resolution of disputes. Through diplomatic engagement, India can encourage restraint, support ceasefire efforts and work with international partners to reduce tensions, he said.
Ilahi also dismissed any role of Pakistan in mediating in the ongoing conflict, saying that no talks or dialogue were being initiated by Pakistan to mediate between Iran and the United States to end the war.
He said such claims were aimed at influencing global oil prices rather than reflecting genuine diplomatic efforts.
Attending a condolence meeting on the death of Iran’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, organised in Patna City, Ilahi said the conflict was imposed on Iran by the United States and Israel, which he accused of launching attacks on Feb 28 and targeting civilian infrastructure such as hospitals, schools and residential areas.
He said the end of the conflict depends on the US and Israel, which, Ilahi claimed, initiated the hostilities.
“The conflict in West Asia began with US-Israel joint military strikes on Iran, leading to the death of Iran’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran retaliated, targeting Israel and US assets in several Gulf countries, disrupting waterways and affecting international energy markets and global economic stability,” he said.
Ilahi emphasised that civilians in multiple countries are suffering due to the conflict and urged global leaders to intervene. Reiterating Iran’s stance, he said, “Iran didn’t want this war. Until now, Iran has not wanted this war, and Iran wants to stop this war immediately. But unfortunately, this unjust war was imposed on Iran.”
He called on people and leaders worldwide to come together and ask the initiators of the war to stop it.
