PATNA: The state government will organise a Kisan Panchayat on February 17 in Patna to solicit views from farmers to give final touches to the roadmap for the agriculture and allied sectors. Around two thousand farmers from across the state, including those from dairy, poultry and fishery sectors, will attend the panchayat, said N S Madhavan, principal secretary of the agriculture department at a joint press meet on Friday which was also attended by principal secretary of the animal husbandry department Anil Kumar.
"Enhancing farmers income, strengthening the extension network, providing market linkage and income generating schemes are some of the broader issues which the government intends to put before the farmers for soliciting their views," Madhavan said. Underlining the state governments resolve to promote the agriculture sector in a big way, Madhavan said that from a meagre Rs 20 crore fund under the plan head three years back, the government provided Rs 150 crore for the sector this fiscal (2007-08) and plans are afoot to earmark funds to the tune of Rs 700-800 crore each year in the next four years for this sector.
