Govt takes steps to establish defence corridor

Patna: The state govt has initiated steps towards establishing a defence corridor in Bihar. Deputy CM and state home minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday said he had a meaningful meeting and discussions with senior officers and experts from the NDA, who were on a study tour from the ministry of defence, in Patna.

“During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the plans, possibilities and various aspects related to the development of the proposed defence corridor in Bihar,” Samrat said.


The state govt, in its budget for 2026-27 presented on Tuesday, announced the establishment of a defence corridor and a semiconductor manufacturing park in Bihar.

Samrat said the NDA govt is committed to providing employment to the youth. With this objective, industries are being promoted. “A vast industrial corridor is being developed in the Dobhi area of Gaya district, which will become a major centre of development for the state,” he said.

“The construction of the defence corridor will also help Bihar establish its identity in the defence production and technology sector,” he said.

The Nitish Kumar govt, in its first cabinet meeting after govt formation, had approved the formation of a committee to establish the defence corridor and the semiconductor manufacturing park. Currently, only two major defence corridors in the country are located in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Currently, an ordnance factory is operating in Nalanda. This is the only factory in the country that produces the bi-modular charge System, which is used to fire shells from the Bofors and other cannons. There is a gun factory in Munger.
