Patna: The govt has granted a one-month extension to vehicle owners who have not installed High Security Registration Plates (HSRP), minister Shravan Kumar said on Wednesday, noting that around 52 lakh vehicles still lack the plates. The move is particularly significant for vehicles registered before 2019.
“Fitting HSRP is mandatory for all vehicles registered before 2019, and owners must replace their old number plates with the new high-security plates within the extended deadline,” the minister said. He added the measure aims to improve vehicle security and prevent theft and tampering.
Warning of strict enforcement, he said, “Failure to comply with the rule would invite action under Sections 192 and 50 of the Motor Vehicles Act and fines ranging from Rs5,000 to Rs10,000.”
Shravan Kumar also urged owners to contact their district transport office (DTO) to update HSRP details. He said that those receiving messages despite having HSRP should visit DTOs to update records. HSRP plates carry a laser-engraved unique code and Ashoka Chakra hologram for authenticity.
