GMPL offers Rs6k-cr investment in Bihar

Patna: Another private firm, Giridhan Metal Private Limited (GMPL), has offered to invest around Rs6,000 crore in Bihar, industries minister Dilip Jaiswal said on Saturday, expressing confidence that the state is emerging as an attractive investment destination.

The minister told this newspaper over the phone that he will deliver a PowerPoint presentation before business and country heads in Delhi on Feb 17 to invite semiconductor industry investments in Bihar.


He said Shyam Steel Manufacturing Company Ltd has already decided to invest Rs5,000 crore and that an MoU with GMPL will be signed after Stage 1 clearance. The company has sought 600 acres along the Gaya-Dobhi Road industrial corridor to establish its Super Shakti and Awadh units, which are expected to generate 7,500 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Jaiswal said 1,700 acres have already been acquired and the govt is acquiring another 1,300 acres to develop the corridor along the six-lane highway.

Talks are also under way with Coca-Cola, JK Cement and Dalmia for setting up new plants in the state.

“On Feb 17, I will give a presentation at Mandapam, Delhi on AI techniques for setting up a semiconductor plant in Bihar. Many country presidents are coming,” he told TOI. He reiterated that the state govt aims to attract around Rs1 lakh crore in investments to fulfil the NDA’s poll promise of generating 1 crore jobs in the next five years.

As per a letter to the minister, the GMPL-led SPV proposes to establish a 2 MTPA greenfield integrated steel plant in Bodh Gaya in phases, producing TMT bars, wire rods, structural and alloy steel products.
