AGRA: A 23-year-old woman and her lover have been arrested for allegedly smothering her 24-year-old husband with a pillow and then hanging the body with a saree to make it look like it's a case of suicide in Uttar Pradesh's Agra district, police said on Friday.
On Feb 12, the father of Luvkesh Tomar, a resident of Lodhai village in Agra, had filed a complaint that his son was murdered by his wife and her lover, said Ekta police station SHO Hansraj Bhadhauria. An FIR was registered under BNS sections 103(1) (murder), 238 (destroying evidence).
"A police team reached the house, inspected the crime scene and took the deceased's wife, Gauri, into police custody after questioning her. A mobile phone was recovered from her possession, and the murder weapons — the pillow and the saree — were also recovered. A police team was constituted to arrest the lover, Sundar Singh, 23, who was arrested on Friday," said ACP Piyoosh Kant Rai.
During interrogation, accused Sundar said that on Feb 10, Luvkesh's wife called him to her house at night. When Luvkesh saw them in a compromising position, he started assaulting his wife, police said.
"Sundar then pushed Luvkesh to the ground and smothered him with a pillow, while his wife held his hands and legs. After about 15 minutes, Luvkesh stopped breathing," ACP said. Gauri then took out a saree and made a noose and put it around Luvkesh's neck, while Sundar hung the body from the ceiling fan.
"Around 4 am on Feb 10, family members and neighbours were informed that Luvkesh died by suicide. The family hastily performed the last rites. Later, suspecting foul play, they informed the police," the ACP said.
Luvkesh used to work as an electrician and got married to the woman four years ago. The couple had a three-year-old boy.
