Girl feared drowned as boat capsizes in Buxar
A heartbreaking incident unfolded on the Ganga river close to Buxar when a boat transporting ten mustard harvesters capsized. Quick-thinking villagers and local swimmers managed to rescue nine of the individuals, but a 12-year-old girl is still unaccounted for. The vessel, which was overloaded beyond its intended capacity, could not withstand the fierce river currents.
Buxar: A 12-year-old girl was feared drowned while nine others were rescued after a boat capsized on Tuesday in the Ganga river near Rajapur village under Ramdas Rai police station area of the district.According to police, around 10 workers from Navrang Rai’s Dera village were crossing the river in a small boat to harvest mustard crops. Midway through the journey, the boat went out of control and overturned, throwing all passengers into the water.Farmers working nearby responded quickly with the help of local swimmers and managed to rescue nine people safely. However, Neha Kumari (12), who was travelling with her mother Rashmi Devi, went missing in the incident. A search operation was launched immediately after the accident. Rajapur panchayat mukhiya Madan Rai informed the administration about the incident, following which police reached the spot and began rescue efforts with the help of divers.Villagers said the boat, with the capacity to carry four people, was carrying 10 passengers. The strong current of the Ganga further increased the risk, leading to the accident. Ramdas Rai SHO Abhishek Pandey said SDRF personnel, along with local police, are continuing the search operation using large nets.
