PATNA: Defence minister and Samata Party’s national president George Fernandes described the victory of the BJP in Gujarat assembly poll as the “victory of the people who voted the party to power.
Replying to newsmen’s queries in an informal chat at the Patna airport here on Monday, he said that even media contributed a lot to the victory of the BJP in Gujarat.

“Thank you very much for that. The entire atmosphere was created in favour of the BJP, he added.
When asked whether it was BJP’s ‘Hindutva card’ which clicked this time in Gujarat, Fernandes counter-questioned, “Didn’t the Congress play the same card in Gujarat?
Asked whether he had received a representation from seven party MPs for the removal of the party’s Bihar unit president Raghunath Jha from his post, Fernandes evaded a reply, saying “I do not want to make public the party problems and settle them on a public platform. Any quarrels will be settled within the party.
Fernandes was on his way to Muzaffarpur to participate in the Hindi poet, the late Ram Briksha Benipuri’s birth anniversary function, organised on the premises of Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU), and hold a meeting with party workers there.
On Comptroller and Auditor General’s report on irregularities in defence deals, the minister said that he had not gone through the report as he had not received it so far.
