PATNA: Six persons, including two minor brothers and two children, drowned in separate incidents in Patna and
Saran districts of the state on Monday.
Saurabh (12) and his brother Sahil Kumar (11) drowned while taking a bath in a pond at Khemnichak in Patna while Sonali (14) and Anuradha (15) drowned in the Ganga at village Ramdas Chak under Dighwara police station area in Saran on Monday.
Another minor boy drowned in Brahmapura pond under Ram Krishna Nagar police station area in Patna. The deceased was identified as Sanjeet Kumar (14), the son of Santosh Sahni. He had gone to the pond with his family for the morning arghya but slipped into deep water while taking a bath.
Saurabh and Sahil were the sons of one Girija Prasad of Shahpur under Gopalpur police station area.
They slipped into water while taking bath in the pond where people gathered to offer arghya to Sun God. The villagers fished out the victims from the pond and rushed the two to the hospital where the doctors declared them dead.
The local residents blocked traffic for around two hours demanding compensation. The police pacified the mob and cleared the road after giving them assurance for the compensation.
Town ASP Sweety Sehrawat said the bodies were sent to the NMCH for postmortem.
A round 10 days back, Aashish had an argument with his in-laws over the issue. That seems to be the reason of attack on them, police said.
The deceased were identified as Chandan Jha (31) and his brother Rajnandan Jha (40). They died on the spot, while their sister, father and wives have been admitted to PMCH in a critical condition.
The injured have been identified as Durga Jha (24), her father Shashi Bhushan Jha (60) and sisters-in-law Lovely Devi (38) and Priti Devi (35). The family belongs to ward number 5 of Punjabi Colony. Munger DIG Sanjay Kumar said the incident was related to an illicit love affair
. “The accused is absconding, but will be arrested soon,” he said. Lakhisarai SP Pankaj Kumar said the incident took place between 7.30 and 8.30 am under Kawaiya police station area. “Aashish had left a 10-page note behind, accusing Durga of having an affair with someone else and that’s why she did not want to live with him
. The police have recovered the weapon used in the killing,” he said. The leader of opposition in the state assembly, Vijay Kumar Sinha, demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident. A BJP delegation also met the victims at the PMCH.
