Direct flyover access to PMCH parking likely by next month
Patna: Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) is set to get a direct link to the city’s double-decker flyover with construction underway on a dedicated ramp connecting the two. The ramp, expected to be completed next month, will bridge a distance of around 75 to 100 metres between the flyover and the hospital’s multi-level car parking. The project involves building three ramps — two connecting to the upper deck of the flyover and one to the lower deck, officials said.
The work is being carried out by the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL).
Girder work for the ramp and slab work to cover it are currently underway. Once completed, people will have easier access to PMCH from the double-decker flyover.
An engineer of BRPNNL, requesting anonymity, said, “This will be the first ramp to provide connectivity from the double-decker flyover to PMCH. There is a plan to build ramps at a total of three locations to connect them with the multi-level car parking being built at PMCH. Two ramps will connect with the upper flyover, while one ramp will be linked with the lower flyover. Currently, work on one ramp is progressing rapidly.”
The ramp is being built on the east side of Anjuman Islamia Hall to provide connectivity from the double-decker flyover to PMCH. It will be connected to the multi-level car parking under construction at the hospital. The distance from the flyover to the parking facility is about 75 to 100 metres.
Authorities expect the new link to improve traffic management around PMCH and reduce congestion along Ashok Rajpath. Three supporting pillars are being erected to integrate the ramp with the new parking structure being developed within the hospital campus. Two additional access points are planned — one on either side of Anjuman Islamia Hall and another near Gate No. 2 of the hospital.
“Once operational, the new link will provide patients and visitors with faster, more direct access to PMCH, one of Bihar’s largest govt hospitals. This development is part of a broader effort to streamline traffic flow and enhance infrastructure around key institutions in Patna. The project underscores the city’s push towards improved urban mobility and healthcare accessibility,” the BRPNNL engineer added.
