Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi to leave for US on Tuesday

CM Sushil Kumar Modi

will leave for the United States on a 10-day tour on Tuesday to participate in a conference to be held in Washington DC on the healthcare improvements made in the state over the last 13 years.

The conference, being organised by the Global Health Policy Centre at Centre for Strategic and International Studies, Washington DC, will be held on December 19. Modi is also scheduled to attend other events in the US.

While Modi’s formal interactions with the US officials will begin from December 13, he will participate in the conference on ‘Innovation, partnership and self-reliance: Health policy lessons from Bihar’ on December 19.

State health minister Mangal Pandey and principal secretary of health department Sanjay Kumar will accompany the deputy CM.

During his US stay, Modi will also visit the World Bank on December 20, where he will highlight the state’s Jeevika programme besides exploring scope for partnership with the WB in the implementation of the programme.

Modi will address a select group of audience at a dinner party on December 18. The audience will include US policymakers, representatives from NGOs, implementing partners, as well as representatives of private sector and other institutions.

The itinerary of Modi includes his visit to the Stanford University on December 13. The discussions will veer around quality improvement for clinical care, supply chain, pharmaceutical management, performance and improvement mechanism as well as the use of technology to improve the skills of nursing staff.

The same day, Modi will visit the Google campus and the Centre for Disease Control in Atlanta that manages healthcare system for the American population. At Oakland, California, Modi will visit Kaiser Permanente International to study insurance model for healthcare.
