Court orders attachment of insurance firm office in Rohtas
Sasaram: The district and additional sessions court in Sasaram on Tuesday ordered the attachment of the local office of Oriental Insurance Company Ltd and directed freezing of its bank account up to Rs 40 lakh for failing to comply with a court order.
The directive was issued by district and additional sessions judge-X Umesh Rai in connection with an execution case filed by Shakuntala Devi. The petitioner approached the court alleging that despite earlier orders dated March 12 and March 23, 2026, the insurance company had not paid the awarded compensation amount.
Taking serious note of the non-compliance, the court observed that no payment had been made by the company even after repeated directions. The court had earlier directed the insurer to release the decretal amount along with interest through cheque or draft in favour of the claimant within the stipulated time, but the order remained unimplemented.
Acting on the petitioner’s application, the court directed the nazir (execution officer) to initiate attachment proceedings in Sasaram. The local police have also been instructed to provide necessary assistance to ensure smooth execution of the order.
In addition, the court directed the branch manager of Axis Bank, Sasaram, to freeze transactions up to Rs 40 lakh in the company’s account and submit a compliance report.
Copies of the order have been sent to the officials concerned , including the police station, bank authorities and the company’s legal counsel. The matter has been listed for further proceedings on May 4, 2026.
