PATNA: In keeping with the party''s scheduled programme, Congressmen on Monday filed out from various points in Patna and marched to Miller School ground to hold a colourful rally to celebrate the Delhi High Court order that absolved former PM Rajiv Gandhi of all alleged charges in the Bofors case.
Among those who addressed the rally were state president Ram Jatan Sinha, AICC representatives Iqbal Singh, D P Rai and Hassan Ahmad, Congress legislature party (CLP) leader in the state assembly Vijay Shankar Dubey and industries minister Vishwa Mohan Sharma as well as other senior leaders Mahachandra Prasad Singh, Shivnandan Singh and Awadhesh Kumar Singh.
Sinha said that Rajiv Gandhi was falsely implicated in the Bofors case to damage him politically and tarnish the image of his family. He cited former CBI director Yogendra Singh, who has claimed in his book that there were no evidence against Rajiv Gandhi and he false charges were levelled against him. Sinha felt that the Congress, Sonia Gandhi and her family would get justice in the people''s court.
Dubey said that those who falsely implicated Rajiv Gandhi in the Bofors case, spread hatred in the society and created an atmosphere of social disharmony, should be punished.
Several senior leaders, including Radhanandan Jha, Ram Swaroop Ram and Narendra Kumar were present on the occasion. The party''s state secretary, Uma Kant Singh, was among prominent organisers of the march and rally. The rallyists reached the venue in groups and shouted slogans condemning the NDA, apart from cautioning the PM and deputy PM L K Advani.
