BOA proposes tie-up with IOA for sports injuries management

Patna: The Bihar Orthopaedic Association (BOA) has proposed a formal collaboration with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to reduce sports-related injuries and ensure faster, scientifically guided recovery for athletes through specialised orthopaedic care.

The proposal was highlighted during a scientific seminar organised by the City Orthopaedic Club of Patna at a city hotel on Sunday. IOA executive committee member Bhupinder Singh Bajwa, who attended the event as chief guest, underlined the need for closer coordination between the national Olympic body and orthopaedic surgeons. He said a structured partnership could significantly minimise on-field injuries while ensuring injured athletes receive timely and advanced rehabilitation support.

Bajwa stressed that modern sports require integrated medical planning and continuous monitoring, adding that collaboration with orthopaedic experts would help athletes return to peak performance levels more efficiently.

The seminar featured scientific deliberations led by senior orthopaedic specialists Dr Ritesh Runu, Dr Ashok Kumar Sinha, Dr Ashish Singh and Dr Jibendu Choudhary. The discussions focused on complex trauma cases, innovative treatment modalities for joint disorders, and advancements in surgical techniques. Special emphasis was laid on early-stage rehabilitation protocols tailored for high-impact and competitive sports.

Held under the leadership of BOA president Dr Amulya Kumar Singh and convened by Dr Arnab Sinha, the meeting brought together around 75 orthopaedic surgeons, who deliberated on emerging trends in musculoskeletal health and sports medicine.

The event concluded with a collective commitment from the medical fraternity to integrate recent surgical and rehabilitation advancements into mainstream care for regional and national-level athletes.
