: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) suffered serious injuries when the police team led by him was attacked by a group of people near Gundi village under

police station in Bhojpur district on Sunday.

The team led by ASI Umesh Mandal had gone to investigate a case of domestic violence against a woman at the village.

"The assailants hit Umesh with sticks injuring his head and hands, and snatched his service revolver when he fell on the ground. They also fired nine rounds from the revolver to intimidate the police team. However, they returned the weapon later," SHO of Krishnagarh police station,

The SHO said the ASI has been admitted to a private hospital where he is undergoing treatment. "On getting a complaint of torture and beating of a woman by her in-laws, the police team had gone to

ka Tola in the Gundi village when the incident happened. The police have lodged separate FIRs against one Ganesh Yadav and others for torturing a woman and attacking the police team," he said.

under the Mufassil police station of Bhojpur district got married two years ago with one Akshay Lal Yadav, son of Ganesh Yadav of Gundi village. After the 'Gauna' ritual, when the woman came to her in-laws' house in April this year, her in-laws allegedly started torturing the woman for dowry. On Saturday, the woman was allegedly badly beaten by her in-laws.
