Patna: UK minister for AI and online safety, Kanishka Narayan, arrived in Bihar on Saturday after more than two decades, saying “the state is chasing the future of technology”. He originally belongs to Muzaffarpur district.
The Labour MP was born in Muzaffarpur, and his family moved to Cardiff when he was 12 years old. He visited India to attend the India AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi and childhood memories drew him back to his home district.
“Born here, I am back after more than 20 years. You can see a huge amount of progress taking place here. Bihar is chasing the future of technology,” the minister told the reporters, expressing admiration for the smooth roads, the airport, and the overall development.
“I still remember the taste of litchi and mangoes. I left the village in childhood but I still have vivid memories of everything,” he recalled.
Narayan received a warm welcome from JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, who described him as “the son of the soil”. “We had a constructive discussion on emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, digital governance, and the evolving frameworks required to ensure online safety and responsible innovation,” Jha posted on his social media.
“We have a huge young population doing great in the sector across the country and in the world. They must be given the platform,” Jha said, adding that AI techniques can be used in healthcare, agriculture, and the service sector. He indicated that there could be potential collaboration between Bihar and the UK in the field of artificial intelligence.
