PATNA: A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by her cousin at his house in a village under the Phulwarisharif police station area in Patna on Sunday morning.

Police sources quoting doctors who conducted postmortem said the girl was raped and gagged to death.
Phulwarisharif SDPO Ramakant Prasad said the girl belonged to a place under the Rupaspur police station area in the city.
She had gone to her cousin's house two days back. "Her body was found on the floor near the entrance of the thatched house where her maternal grandfather was also sleeping," the SDPO said.
Quoting the family members, the SDPO said the girl was seen going to Mathura's bedroom last night and had not come out.
"On the basis of circumstantial evidence, Mathura is the prime suspect. Even the family members suspected him of rape and murder of the girl," the SDPO said.
"Mathura's wife was detained for interrogation," Prasad said, adding an FIR was lodged by the girl's maternal grandfather Jaglal Manjhi with the Phulwarisharif police station.
"The girl's clothes were neither messed up nor was any injury mark on her body," the SDPO said.

Patna Medical College and Hospital
(PMCH) was formed to conduct postmortem," he said.
