Bettiah: A 55-year-old assistant sub-inspector (ASI), posted at Semra police station in West Champaran, died of a heart attack while on duty late Wednesday night. Ajay Kumar Pandey, a resident of Purnia, complained of severe chest pain during his duty and was rushed to Bagaha sub-divisional hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
According to police, Pandey was on Dial 112 duty when he suddenly experienced severe chest pain. Colleagues immediately took him to the hospital, but doctors pronounced him brought dead. Upon receiving information, senior police officers reached the hospital and reviewed the incident.
News of his sudden demise sent a wave of grief through the police department. Expressing condolences, Bagaha SP Sushant Kumar Saroj, SDPO Kumar Devendra, and Ramnagar SDPO Ragini Kumari described Pandey as a dedicated, disciplined, and friendly officer. “His family has been informed. The body will be handed over after the post-mortem,” the SP said.
Dr Sanjay Kumar Gupta, a physician at Bagaha sub-divisional hospital, said, “Prima facie, it appears to be a heart attack. He died before arriving at the hospital.”
