The tenure of the chairman will be valid for two years, from the date of notification for the same.
The outgoing chairman, P K Sahi, who is also education minister, had joined last year in July. The government has issued notification to this effect on Thursday. 77-year old Sahaya has served as the first governor of Chhattisgarh from November 2000 to June 2003 and again became governor of Tripura from June 2003 to October 2009. During his tenure as governor, he was also the chancellor of state universities and rector of Tripura Central University.
Talking to TOI, Sahaya said: “I would make an endeavour to convert it into a centre of excellence and revive its past glory in line with Bihari identity which the Bihar CM envisages.”
The ANSISS was inaugurated in 1958 by the then president of India, Dr Rajendra Prasad. It was, however, made a statutory autonomous body on October 8, 1964, under the ANSISS Act, 1964.
Recently, the Institute revived its in-house journal, ‘Journal of Social and Economic Studies’. It is a bi-annual journal. The journal was released by the then PM, the late Indira Gandhi, in 1984.
The journal reflects the thinking and research of prominent social scientists of this country and abroad.
A new item, ‘Bihar in Print’, a quarterly bulletin, has recently been added to the documentation list. Another volume on Bihar in research journals and books in being prepared, said a senior faculty member.
