UP warns on fake videos on wages, overtime
Noida: The labour department has issued a warning against fake and selectively edited videos being circulated after the recent industrial unrest, saying the clips are spreading confusion among factory workers over minimum wages and alleged action on overtime dues.
The clarification came after videos from counselling meetings held in the aftermath of the April 13 unrest began doing the rounds in worker groups. According to officials, the footage was edited and shared out of context, creating a false impression about wage structures and the department’s role.
Assistant labour commissioner Suyash Pandey said the department stepped in after misinformation began spreading widely. “Selectively edited videos are being circulated among factory worker groups to mislead them. As incorrect claims were being spread about wages and departmental action, it became necessary to issue a clarification based on official facts,” he added.
The department said the clips do not reflect what was actually discussed during the counselling sessions conducted with different groups after the unrest.
It reiterated that minimum monthly wages for 74 notified employments in the district were fixed under a UP govt order issued on April 17. The notified rates are Rs 13,690 for unskilled workers, Rs 15,059 for semiskilled workers and Rs 16,868 for skilled workers.
Officials said any figures different from these rates are false.
The department also rejected claims on social media, and in some media reports, that industries were being pressured to clear overtime dues for the past two years. Officials said no such exercise is underway and described the allegation as baseless.
The department has urged industrial units, entrepreneurs, workers and the public not to rely on rumours and verify all labour-related information only through official govt communication.
