Snatcher held after gunfight with Noida cops

NOIDA: A 25-year-old snatcher was arrested by Noida police after a gunfight in the Phase-1 area of Noida on Saturday evening.

According to police, the accused, Deepak Rai, is a resident of the Khoda area.

Ashutosh Dwivedi, ADCP of Noida, said that around 9pm on Saturday, they got a complaint about a phone being snatched in Sector 6. “A team was then sent for checking and in Sector 9 area, he was asked to stop. Instead, he took a sharp U-turn and fled towards Sector 15 metro station,” he said.

“A police team followed him and later he entered a park in Sector 15A, where he started firing at the cops. In cross-firing, the accused received bullet injuries and was arrested. He was also taken to the district hospital for medical attention,” Dwivedi added.

A total 19 cases, including that of the Arms Act and snatching, were registered against him in different police stations of Delhi-NCR. Two mobile phones, a country-made pistol and a stolen bike have been recovered from his possession.
