Noida gives nod for noise barriers on elevated road

Noida: Noida Authority has granted in-principle approval for the installation of noise barriers along the MP2 elevated road. The move follows a sustained demand dating back to 2017 and comes after a letter from the senior manager of work circle 2 acknowledged the need to curb noise pollution on the busy 5km stretch.The stretch connecting sectors 18 and 61 along Vishwakarma Marg has been a source of concern due to heavy traffic noise. The proposal will now undergo technical scrutiny and financial approvals before being taken up for tendering.According to officials, the proposal has been forwarded to the technical advisory committee for evaluation of cost estimates. Subsequent administrative and financial approvals will be sought based on its recommendations.According to a UP Pollution Control Board report dated March 3, 2025, noise levels along the stretch ranged from 70.1 dB(A) to 72.5 dB(A), significantly exceeding permissible limits of 55 dB(A) during the day and 45 dB(A) at night in residential areas, according to the Central Pollution Control Board norms.Residents welcomed the move, saying they have been raising the issue since 2017. “The approval is a relief. People living along the road have been facing serious health issues due to constant noise,” said Pushkar Chandna, a resident.Residents, particularly senior citizens, said prolonged exposure to high noise levels has affected sleep and overall well-being. “There are issues such as hearing issues, disturbed sleep and reduced work efficiency,” said Rakhi Sinha, a resident of Sector 28.
