GREATER NOIDA: Nearly 2,000 residents of Radicon Vedantam society in Sector 16 C in Noida Extension have been without water for the past two days as the motor of the society has broken down, and water cannot be pumped into the tanks.
Residents are currently buying drinking water and on Sunday, a private supplier supplied drinking water bottles twice through two vehicles.
A few residents are going to friends’ and relatives’ places for bathing and other daily chores.
“The motor that pumps water to tanks in the society had become defunct two days ago. As a result, there was scarcity of water by Sunday morning. While the builder maintenance agency has not repaired the motor, the stored water in tanks has also been used up. People are forced to buy drinking water from outside while those who have friends or relatives in nearby societies moved in with them to use their washrooms,” said a resident Annu Khan.
While Khan’s family started using disposals in place of crockery and utensils for dining in the absence of water, some other residents resorted to ordering food from outside.
Another resident
Umesh Singh had a religious ceremony planned at his home on Sunday for which he had invited his relatives. Unfortunately, the scarcity of water ruined his plans. “We faced a lot of problems. Only half of the family could take a bath with the little stored water. The remaining had to remain outside during the pooja as they could not take a shower,” he said.
Agitated by the negligence of the maintenance agency, residents staged a protest on Sunday. “The residents protested against the builder at the Gaur City 2 police post and complained to the builder too,” said Khan who is also the president of Noida Estate Flat Owners Main Association (NEFOMA).
An agreement was mediated by the police between the residents and the maintenance in charge, who promised improved living conditions.
“The motor pump was repaired by Sunday evening and water supply was resumed soon after. By the end of the day, all towers of the society will have water supply,” said Shivaya from the maintenance office of the society.
