More substations need of the hour, official told

Noida: The office-bearers of federation of RWAs on Saturday met Kripal Singh, energy adviser to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav over issues related to power supply in Noida.

In a meeting held at B R Centre, Sector 58, the federation members demanded more power substations in the city, better infrastructure, underground laying of cables and quick response to power breakdowns.

"We have noticed that whenever there is a breakdown during peak summer at the Pali substation in Greater Noida, the alternative arrangement has to be made from Nawada in Haryana. We have requested Kripal Singh to set up more substations in the district so that Noida gets continuous supply even during breakdowns," said N P Singh, president, Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA), who led the delegation.

The delegation also demanded replacement of old transformers in the city. "During rains and also during peak summer, the recurrent problem is of transformer burning or breakdown due to short-circuit. The city has grown manifold and old transformers need replacement as well as upgradation," said Singh.

During power cuts, the necessary equipment includes a jumper which connects to the alternative supply. The RWA federation has also asked for an automatic or duplicate jumper replacement so that the supply is not affected. They also demanded that overhead loose cables and high tension wires be laid underground on a priority basis.

The meeting, attended by Hom Singh Yadav, chief engineer, maintenance (CME), Noida Authority and senior officials from the power distribution company, had Kripal Singh giving necessary directions to them. Kripal Singh also promised to speak to chief secretary as well as chief minister for more substations like the one in Pali.

"While three substations of 400 KV are under construction in Sector 129 and beyond, handover is expected by March 2017," said Singh.

Kripal Singh also agreed to meet the residents of the city once in a month through RWA federation. Others present in the meeting included Sushil Agarwal, advisor & founder member of FONRWA, K K Jain and Brig Ashok Hak (retd), senior vice-presidents, FONRWA.
