NOIDA: From menstrual management to legal rights and self-reliance to safety, the basic education department will roll out a month-long campaign from July 1 on a range of topics to generate awareness among girl students enrolled in the 511 primary and upper primary schools across the district.

The campaign, under the fourth phase of the state government’s women empowerment programme Mission Shakti, will be conducted with the help of school teachers, police and local NGOs.

While efforts will be focused on increasing awareness about the prevention of child marriage, eradication of child labour and dowry system, and legal redressal system available for domestic violence and molestation cases, girls from the economically weaker sections will also be motivated to go to school, the district basic education officer, Aishwarya Lakshmi, said.

“The initiative has been taken to assess the level of education and facilities for girls in government schools. Under this, we will also aim to ensure 100% enrolment of girls from economically weaker sections. Schools that will take special initiatives for the enrolment of poor girls will be commemorated,” Lakshmi said.

Teachers will also apprise students of their fundamental rights. Apart from this, various helpline numbers -- Childline (1098), women (1090) and police (112) -- for assistance in case of harassment will be shared with all students.
