NOIDA: A man was caught selling lenses used for post-cataract surgery at the District Hospital in Sector 39 on Wednesday. The accused demanded Rs 12,000 for a lens from a private company, telling a patient’s family member that those provided by the government were of inferior quality.

The family of the Noida-based patient was confused over the offer and spoke to the man for a few minutes before sensing something amiss. Meanwhile, the hospital staff also found the man suspicious and took him to the chief medical superintendent’s (CMS) office, who then called the police. A team from Kotwali police station soon reached the spot and took him into custody.
During questioning, the man was identified as a resident of Sadarpur in Sector 45. Though no complaint was made by the patient’s family, CMS Dr Renu Agarwal filed a police complaint. He was then booked under IPC Section 290 (public nuisance). He was later released. The hospital is also conducting an internal inquiry to check if any staff members were involved in the matter.
Hospital authorities clarified that the intraocular lenses used for post-cataract surgery are provided for free to all patients, and people must stay vigilant against such fraudsters.
Since the district hospital’s new building became functional early this year, it has been an easy target for mischief. On November 5, thieves broke a wash basin to steal the taps on the eighth floor of the hospital , where CMO office is situated.

A quack was arrested for sending patients to the illegally-operated Agarwal Medical Centre run by Niraj Agarwal and Pooja Agarwal. The quack, Julfiqar, had a clinic-cum-medicine shop and referred patients to the facility. The medical centre manipulated patients' records and falsely claimed that a lab technician and Pooja Agarwal were doctors. The Delhi Medical Council had cancelled Agarwal's registration multiple times. The police found that the nursing home forged lab reports and the operation theatre was filthy. Agarwal owned a Mercedes and a BMW.
32 babies in critical condition are among the patients left at Gaza's main hospital, UN team says
A UN team visited Gaza's largest hospital, Shifa Hospital, after Israeli troops evacuated some patients. The team, led by the World Health Organization, found 291 patients still at the hospital, including 32 critically ill babies and trauma patients.
