NOIDA: The district administration is planning to distribute almonds among children suffering from malnutrition this Diwali. During a recent survey, the district administration identified 4,000 children suffering from malnutrition. It has approached several corporates to fund the initiative. "There is culture of exchanging gifts during Diwali, which sometimes go to waste, but people hardly think about underprivileged children.
Keeping that in mind we have decided to distribute almond among children suffering from malnutrition," GB Nagar district magistrate NP Singh said, adding that doctors have been consulted on the best way to tackle malnutrition. TNN
"The doctors have advised that consuming almonds and milk regularly can cure malnutrition. We have bought quality almonds and our Anganbadi teams are packing those. These packets would be distributed among the parents of these children," he adds.
"The doctors have advised regular milk and multi-vitamin and protein powder for children. Some people have extended their support to the cause," he added.
"We are happy that attention is paid to people like us. We don't have money to gather quality and rich diet for our children. We welcome the initiative and thanks the district administration for the same," said Raju, a native of Greater Noida, whose child is also in malnutrition list.
"We have noticed that people offer expansive gifts and edibles to high and mighty but nobody pay heed for underprivileged. Many times edibles of high and mighty go waste and expire. We urge residents as well to disturb sweets and edibles to the needy before it go expire or waste," DM NP Singh urged.
