Man offered job to review hotels online cheated of Rs 1.6 crore by cyber cons

Noida: A man who was offered a lucrative job to review hotels by a travel agency was cheated of over Rs 1.6 crore after the firm's executives tricked him into depositing the money to avail hefty commissions.
Devanand Singh Paswan of Sector 62 submitted a complaint against two employees of TP (Travel Partners) World — Sonakshi, who claimed to be the company's agent, and Divya Darshini, who posed as a customer care executive — claiming that the duo had reached out to him on July 15 and offered him a job to review hotels online.
Paswan claimed that he was initially asked to deposit a security amount that was to be refunded later. Later, he was told to deposit another Rs 20.5 lakh. The sum, the cons claimed, would earn him a commission of Rs 16 lakh and benefits as part of TP World's anniversary celebrations.
When the complainant tried to withdraw his money, the suspects made him deposit Rs 1.16 crore on July 31, for security and insurance. When he didn't get the commission, he reported the incident to the ministry of home affairs' cyber crime portal on Aug 1.
Later that month, the scammers tricked him into transferring an additional amount of Rs 33 lakh for availing his commissions and benefits. Again, the complainant didn't get his money. The next day, the accused raised another demand of Rs 37 lakh. That's when Pawan reported this to the cybercrime portal again.
Based on his statements, the police registered an FIR under sections 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property), 319(2) (cheating by personation) of BNS, and Section 66D of the IT Act. An investigation into the matter is underway, the police said.
