NOIDA: Approximately 350 cars belonging to the online cab aggregator Ola were found submerged at a dump yard in Greater Noida on Tuesday, as water overflowed from the swollen Hindon river, causing the low-lying area to be inundated.

Gautam Buddh Nagar district magistrate said that a private company had constructed an unauthorised yard in the submergence area of the Hindon river.Despite repeated warnings, the company had not removed the vehicles parked there. However, normal life had not been affected in any way, and there were no reported casualties.

The police said that the dump yard is situated in the floodplains of the Old Sutiyana village in the Ecotech 3 area.
Ola could not be reached right away by news agency PTI for comment.

The dump yard, situated in the floodplains of the Old Sutiyana village within the Ecotech 3 area, became the unfortunate location where pictures and videos emerged, displaying numerous cars submerged in floodwater.
According to the police statement, the village's dump yard is specifically used to store vehicles that were recovered during the Covid-19 pandemic or those that had sustained damages. It is built on the land owned by an individual named Satpal, enclosed by a boundary wall, and supervised by Dinesh Yadav, who was present at the site during the incident.

"The caretaker informed the police that these vehicles are currently parked in the dump yard. The high-level management of Ola was informed about water filling in the dump yard and given a notice by the police to vacate the yard in view of the rising water level of the Hindon river," they added.
Ola officials have been contacted for further proceedings in connection with the dump yard being submerged, the police said.
District administration officials said hundreds of people in the Hindon's floodplains have been impacted by the overflowing river and moved to shelter homes.
District Magistrate Manish Verma, Additional District Magistrate Atul Kumar and Deputy Commissioner of Police Anil Kumar Yadav visited shelter homes in Chhijarsi, Chotpur and Haibatpur to review the situation. Noida MLA Pankaj Singh also visited the impacted villages and interacted with locals as well as government officials.
The district administration has appealed to residents of low-lying areas near the Hindon river to move to safer locations or shelter homes, saying the government is extending all possible help to the people impacted.
