Greater Noida steps up power infrastructure ahead of summer peak
Noida: Greater Noida is fast-tracking upgrades to key substations to meet rising demand and reduce outages. The 33 kV Iteda substation, which supplies electricity to industrial Sectors 10, 12 and 16, will be connected to the 220 kV Jalpura substation by mid to late February. Officials said the move is expected to improve power distribution and curb tripping issues caused by overloading during peak summer demand in several societies in Greater Noida West. The capacity of the Iteda substation is also being increased.
UPPCL's Iteda power substation, equipped with two 160 MVA transformers, has been designed to enhance supply to industrial sectors. GNIDA officials have inspected the facility and instructed that it be energised within the next two weeks. According to officials, the work of laying the transmission line between the Jalpura and Iteda substations is almost complete. An additional 10 MVA capacity transformer has been installed at the Iteda substation, with the project costing around Rs 8 crore. Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL), which supplies electricity to Greater Noida, has already projected a sharp rise in demand this summer. "Peak summer demand is expected to reach around 950 MW, over 100 MW more than last year," said Sarnath Ganguly, vice-president (operations), NPCL. Officials attributed the surge in demand to population growth and increased industrial and commercial activity. To address this, GNIDA and NPCL are working on expanding the existing network, including plans for new substations and capacity upgrades. A new power substation is proposed for Badalpur. Meanwhile, NPCL has constructed 11 new 33/11 kV substations and two additional switching stations. The discom has also enhanced the capacity of 12 existing substations to a total of 152.5 MVA and increased transformer capacity to 290 MVA.
