Two killed as ceiling grille collapses at Greater Noida mall

NOIDA: Two people were killed after an iron grille from the 5th floor of Blue Sapphire Mall located in Noida Extension fell on them on Sunday. They were taken to a private hospital where doctors declared them dead.

The deceased were identified as Harendra Bhati (35), a resident of Vijay Nagar, Ghaziabad and Shakeel Khan (34), a resident of Khora colony, Ghaziabad.

Bhati used to run an interior shop in the mall and Shakeel was a painter in the shop.



Hirdesh Katheriya, ADCP of Central Noida said that the incident took place around 12.30pm and police got the information from a private hospital at 1pm.

“Initial investigation revealed that Harendra and Shakeel were going upstairs and were supposed to take the escalator when an iron grill from the 5th floor of the mall fell on them. The people at the mall took them to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared them dead,” he said.

“A heavy police force has been deployed and further courses of action are underway. The bodies were sent for autopsy and reports are awaited,” he said.
