Call centre that cheated youths with job offers busted in Noida, 2 held

Noida: Two men were arrested for running a sham call centre that cheated unemployed youths with job promises. The accused used social media ads to lure victims, charging a Rs 950 registration fee and later extracting up to Rs 50,000.The two masterminds, Anuj Kumar of Meerut and Romesh Malik of Shamli, were arrested from a four-storey building in Sector 4. They ran the fraud from the second floor of a building in Delhi's New Ashok Nagar that they had rented for Rs 40,000 per month.The racket, active for several months, reportedly cheated over 150 unemployed youths, mainly from southern states.Police found that the accused hired only women as callers to trap job seekers, terminating them within a month to avoid scrutiny. DCP Yamuna Prasad said the accused procured personal data of jobseekers from a website named ‘Foundit.com', spending nearly Rs 3,000 and used it to target individuals from distant states who were unlikely to visit Noida frequently. The modus operandi involved the women calling jobseekers while posing as employees of "Naukri.com" and offering guaranteed placements. The victims were told the money was part of a "one-year refundable contract" and would be returned with interest. Once payments were made, the accused issued fake appointment letters.
