Buyers clash with builder's employees over flat delay

Buyers

of La Residentia, a housing society in Techzone 4 of

Greater Noida

west, protesting against an alleged delay in handover of flats and employees of the builder clashed with each other on Sunday, prompting police to intervene.


Both sides lodged counter-complaints, but no FIR was lodged till late Sunday evening. A group of 150 buyers had staged a protest in the housing society’s compound on Sunday afternoon when a few employees of the builder objected to the demonstration.

An argument soon snowballed into a

clash

between the buyers and the builder’s employees. A police team intervened and pacified the two sides.

“We had taken out a peaceful protest but the builder’s employees started insulting us. This resulted in the scuffle. Some of the buyers were injured and suffered bruises. We finally lodged a complaint with the police,” a buyer said.

The builder, Sanjeev Rai, claimed that of the 3,200 flats in the project, 1,400 have been delivered and work on the second phase of 900 flats is almost complete. The buyers, however, said they had been waiting for their flats for the past five years.

“The buyers had been told about the progress in our construction in a meeting 15 days ago. They were assured of delivery. Even now, over 90 people are working at the site. Today, those who have already got their flats also turned up for the protest and there was an altercation,” Rai said.

Anil Kumar Shahi, the station house officer of Bisrakh police station, said: “We have taken cognizance of the matter. Both parties have submitted complaints and the police are investigating the matter. No FIR has been registered.”

La Residentia, spread over 20 acres, was launched in 2010 with a promise of delivery in 2013.

The residents

have been alleging that no construction has taken place for the past two years. This allegation has been repeatedly refuted by the builder, who has said 900 flats in the second phase would be handed over soon.
